Class Descriptions
Foundation Practice
An excellent class for everyone, including beginners. Class composition will vary, with half of the class consisting of standing postures and the remainder comprised of a floor series suitable for anyone who is moderately active.
Lighten Up
Not your mama's yoga! Exploring the lighter of side of yoga with a non-traditional base series including core exercises and lower body focus all while practicing to some awesome tunes!
Yin/Yang
Enjoy the benefits of the strength building yang yoga, and then allow your body to melt into more passively held stretches that typify Yin yoga. Feel the natural progression of the practice from beginning to end while moving mindfully from one pose to the next. Each class will start with a warm-up and pranayama (breathing practice), moving with increased focus and intention to strength building postures to build up heat. The yang portion of the class enhances muscular effort by working already-warmed and open muscles to their full potential. You will gain strength, flexibility and develop keen self-awareness as you learn to use your breath to flow. After you have lit your inner fire and built up some lactic acid, we will close with deep stretches held for traditional Yin durations of approximately five minutes.
- Yin tissues = ligaments, bones, joint
- Yang tissues = muscles, blood, skin
Yin Yoga (non heated)
Yin is universally popular amongst athletes and new practitioners alike. This class is very slow and mindful, practiced at room temperature. Spending more time in each posture allows muscles to fully lengthen by accessing the dense fibrous ligaments and connective tissue of the joints. All of the postures are non-weight bearing and practiced in a seated position, using a variety of props and supports. The intention is to encourage circulation in less flexible areas to lengthen and release deep connective tissue. Emphasis will be placed on the joints closest to the core of the body, including the hips, lower back, and the sacral area.
Hatha / Restorative
Restorative yoga consists of longer holds designed to deeply relax the body and the mind. Designed to relieve stress and tension, using the heated room to stimulate deep muscle release. This is an excellent non-weight bearing style of yoga for all-levels. Ideal for those who prefer a less vigorous class and for those experiencing illness, injury or chronic pain.
Hot Flow
Get ready for an invigorating, active class combining movement and breath in a traditional vinyasa style with a modern twist. An energetic mix of Sun Salutations and strength building asanas (postures) are linked together smoothly, sometimes feeling like a dance. Although Hot Flow is physically challenging, it is also mentally calming and suitable for all levels. This active flowing is proven to improve strength, cardiovascular health, and flexibility. Flows will provide modifications and challenges for different levels, allowing for beginners, intermediate, and advanced students to be challenged in the same class. This practice will torch calories, tone your body, and relax your mind.
Community Class ($5 class)
Same expectations as foundation practice but will often be taught by our newer instructors
Barre
Barre touches on endurance, strength, flexibility, and restoration. This total body workout is intense but rewarding, using a variety of props to skillfully blend cardio, Pilates, balance work, and strength training into an invigorating hour of fun, movement and motivating music. Modifications are offered for all levels of student, and trained instructors emphasize form over speed. For people who are brand new to barre please note that no actual dancing will take place.
Thai Touch (not heated)
In this unique healing system of Thai Yoga Massage, the practitioner guides the client through a series of Restorative or Yin yoga postures, while palming and thumbing along the body`s energy ("Sen") lines and pressure points. Together these actions result in a comprehensive full body treatment that relieves muscular tension, improves circulation, boots the immune system and balances the body energetically.
Hip Opening
Wise yogis say that our hips are the fountain of youth! Tap into a more youthful you with this hip opening flow. Great for those that sit in a chair all day or as a compliment to any recreational, such as running. Hip openers are meant to ease back and knee pain, along with improving circulation to the legs. There is s also a more subtle benefit to hip openers too; we hold stress and negative emotions in our hips. So jump into this class and say goodbye to old emotional baggage weighing you down.
Flow/Yin
Flow/Yin combines the fluid practice of flow with the stillness of Yin. Start to build heat during the vinyasa series followed by a relaxing, restorative stretch. Increase vitality and bring the body into perfect harmony with this Yang/Yin practice.
Hot Yin
Hot Yin is the complete opposite of all our other more yang class styles - Yin is a passive, slow practice with long holds all done on the floor. Where our other classes build strength and length in the muscles, this class primarily focuses on increasing mobility in our joints, the health of our bones, and the stretching of our fascia. While this practice is not the most physically demanding, its challenge lies in the mental endurance to hold the deep stretches for up to 5 minutes.
